Have you considered Sponsoring an AIDS Orphan? SOS Children's Villages

Instead of an ordinary present for a child why not help then to learn about the world and give a good turn to a young child struggling to support their baby brothers and sisters after their parents have died of HIV/AIDS? Sponsor a Child or just make a regular donation to supoprt AIDS orphan in the community programmes.

What we do

SOS Children's Villages is one of the world's largest charities and provides long-term care for children who have no-one else, as well as wide-ranging support for local communities in 131 countries.

Some examples of our aids kids projects can be found here:
Aids prevention in Zimbabwe.
Helping Aids Orphans in Rwanda.

Traditionally most of our work was in supporting homeless children through to independence by providing homes, schools and skills-training. This is still a vital work with ex child-soldiers and those who have lost parents through war, famine or disease.

The increasing scale of the challenge, especially from the millions of children orphaned by HIV/AIDS, means that new projects are often providing support for child-led families, kept intact in their family homes. For each young child now growing up toward independence, at present hundreds more are faced with the distress of loss of a parent, and the desperate fear they may not be able to provide for younger siblings, whom they tend whilst trying to scavenge a living.

Our organisation

SOS Children's Villages UK (SOS-UK) is a UK registered charity responsible for targeting donations where the need is greatest. SOS-UK channels the money it raises via the SOS-Children's Villages KDI network, one of the world's largest charitable groups. This greatly reduces our assurance costs: the network ensures money is spent as intended. However as a UK charity we have to select from a large number of projects around the world which ones are most cost effective at dealing with the greatest need (and, sadly, which projects are not).

SOS Children's Villages UK relies primarily on donations from individuals. Donors can decide on which projects or countries the entirety of their contribution (after transaction costs) will go to, or leave it to us to decide this. We cover UK administrative costs from donors who are explicitly happy to contribute to these costs. Every donation, however large or small, helps us care for some of the world's most vulnerable children'. This is a signpost site: we will use the url for a topic-related site in due course.
